Travel notes

Getting there

Step 1

Take the ferry

Catch the Friday Harbor ferry from Anacortes, about 2 hours' drive north of Seattle. Get to the terminal at least 30 minutes early.

Walking on

This is the easy way. Park in the big lot at the terminal for the weekend, then take a short walk downhill to the boat.

Driving on

Car spaces fill up quickly, so book a vehicle reservation in advance. You do this on the same site as the schedule.

Step 2

Stay with us

We've reserved a room for each of our guests at the Tucker House Inn & Harrison House Suites, Fri 4/2 to Sun 4/4. We've toured it and love it.

  1. RSVP to see your room, who you're sharing with and the estimated cost.
  2. Call the Inn before Wed, Dec 2 to finalize it. Give them your room name. Your RSVP shows exactly what to say.

275 C Street, Friday Harbor, WA 98250

From the ferry

The Friday Harbor terminal is in the heart of town, about a 6- to 10-minute walk from the Inn. It's uphill the whole way. Accessibility tips

Step 3

Ride the trolley

A trolley takes everyone from the Inn to Lime Kiln and back. You won't need a car for the ceremony or reception.

Departs the Inn at 3:30 pm. Returns by 7:00 pm, before dinner.

Wondering about tickets, parking or missed sailings? Read the ferry FAQs. If you run into trouble, reach out to Jess or Claire.

Good questions

FAQs

The ferry

Where do I catch the ferry?

From the Washington State Ferries terminal in Anacortes, WA (2100 Ferry Terminal Rd). It's about a 2-hour drive north of Seattle. Take the sailing to Friday Harbor on San Juan Island.

What day should I travel?

Friday, April 2. The ferries are often late, and arriving the day before means a delay can't make you miss the ceremony. The room we've reserved for you at the Tucker House Inn starts Friday night for exactly this reason.

How early should I get to the terminal?

At least 30 minutes before departure. If you're driving on, give yourself extra time for the line of cars and check any instructions that come with your reservation.

Should I walk on or drive on?

We recommend walking on. The Inn is a 6-minute walk from the Friday Harbor terminal, and our trolley handles all the wedding-day transport, so you won't need a car on the island.

Drive on if you want to explore the far ends of the island on your own schedule. Just book a vehicle reservation first (see below).

Do I need a ferry reservation?

Walking on: no. Just show up and buy your ticket.

Driving on: yes, please. These ferries fill up with cars quickly, so reserve your spot in advance on the Washington State Ferries site. That's also where you'll find the schedule.

Do I buy a ticket in both directions?

No. On this route fares are collected only in Anacortes, so the ticket you buy on the way over covers your trip back. There's nothing to pay when leaving Friday Harbor.

Where do I park if I walk on?

There's a large parking lot at the Anacortes terminal where you can leave your car over the weekend. From the lot it's a short walk downhill to the boat. Check the posted signs for current parking rates.

What if my ferry is delayed or I miss my sailing?

Don't panic. Catch the next sailing, and text or call Jess or Claire so we know where you are. This is also why we're asking everyone to come Friday: a late boat on Friday night is no problem.

On the island

How far is the Inn from the ferry?

The Friday Harbor terminal is right in the heart of town, about a 6- to 10-minute walk to the Tucker House Inn at 275 C Street. The walk is uphill the whole way. See Accessibility for the route and tips.

Do I need a car on the island?

Not for the wedding. A trolley takes guests from the Inn to Lime Kiln at 3:30 and brings everyone back by 7:00, and Coho Restaurant is in town.

Do I have a room? How do I book it?

We've reserved a room or suite for every guest at the Tucker House Inn & Harrison House Suites (Fri 4/2 to Sun 4/4). RSVP and your room will appear right away, with a link to it, who you're sharing with and the estimated nightly cost.

The room is held for you, but it's your responsibility to call the Inn at 360-399-2918 and finalize your reservation before Wednesday, December 2. Mention our wedding when you call.

Accessibility

What's the walk from the Friday Harbor ferry to the Inn like?

It's short, about 6 to 10 minutes, but it's uphill the entire way, on town streets and sidewalks. The Inn sits on a hill above town.

The route: follow foot traffic off the ferry and head straight up the hill, past the cars lined up for the outbound boat. Turn left on First Street, which becomes Harrison Street. Keep climbing on Harrison, then turn right on C Street. Check-in is at the green house on the corner of C and Nichols.

If you're rolling luggage or would rather not walk the hill, consider driving on (with a reservation), or call the Inn at 360-399-2918 before you travel so they can help you plan a ride.

Are there stairs at the Tucker House Inn?

The Inn is made up of several historic houses, and the main Victorian house has a few steps up to its front porch. If you need a step-free room or entrance, mention it when you call to book so the Inn can place you in the right room.

Is the ferry wheelchair accessible?

In Anacortes, walk-on passengers board using an overhead passenger ramp.

In Friday Harbor there's no overhead ramp, so walk-on passengers get on and off through the car deck. All the boats on this route have elevators between decks.

If you're driving on and need the elevator or extra room for a lift, tell the ticket seller before boarding.

Can I get help boarding or borrow a wheelchair?

Yes. Walk-on passengers can ask terminal or ferry staff for help boarding, to borrow a ferry wheelchair if one is available, or to be told when boarding starts.

If you know you'll need a wheelchair on a specific sailing, call Washington State Ferries at 206-464-6400 at least 24 hours ahead. Staff can't help with transferring from a seat to a wheelchair, so bring a companion if you'll need that.

Is there accessible parking in Anacortes?

Yes. Accessible parking is free with a valid disabled parking placard or plate in the Washington State Ferries lot at the Anacortes terminal. The walk from the lot to the boat is downhill, so it's uphill on the way back.

Are there reduced ferry fares?

Yes. Seniors 65 and older, people with disabilities, and passengers with a Medicare card pay half the regular passenger fare. Bring ID or proof of eligibility. Vehicle fares aren't discounted.

How will I know if an elevator is out of service?

Washington State Ferries posts a notice on its travel alerts page whenever an elevator, accessible restroom or other accessibility feature on a boat or at a terminal is out of service. Check it the day you travel.

The wedding day

What's the dress code?

Come as you are! Wear whatever makes you comfortable. The ceremony is outdoors by the water in early April, so we'd suggest a warm layer and shoes you can walk a path in.

Is there anything on Friday night?

Yes. We're planning a welcome dinner & games on Friday, April 2. The time and place are still TBD, and we'll update the schedule once they're set.

Is the ceremony outdoors?

Yes, at Lime Kiln Point by the water. April on the island can be cool and breezy, so bring a warm layer. There's a short walk from the parking area to the ceremony spot, so wear shoes you're comfortable walking in.

When should I be ready?

The trolley leaves the Tucker House Inn at 3:30 pm sharp. The ceremony starts at 4:30. See the full schedule.

How do I choose my dinner?
